Make sure to research you planned location for the right sized site for your RV or camper.
Be courteous! Please do not take up a bigger campsite than you really need for your gear at national parks. Save those for larger rigs.
Download campground apps to help find hiking trails, maps, and nearby attractions from your campsite. There are also some great groups you can join to find deals on camping rates, with reviews.
Consider pre-planning your meals or cooking casseroles that can be easily heated before you take off down the road.
If you take your furry companions, consider booking a site at the end of a row or near a field to make it easier to "walk" them away from other campers.
Place left over ice in your black water tank and do not completely empty in odor to help clean the tank and remove odor.
Pack a light sweatshirt for cooler nights.
Don't forget your favorite camp chair.
Pack plenty of water or bring a filtered container. You never know about the water supply.
Don't forget to winterize!
Hiking Tips
Do not go hiking in a pair of brand-new boots or shoes. You will regret it. Make sure you walk around in them a few days at least to break them in a little.
Invest in a good pair of waterproof socks if you plan on hiking in or around rivers.
If going on a day hike, how long you plan on being out. This will help you know how much water, number of snacks, and other essentials you have to pack.
Invest in some good collapsible poles for trekking up steeper terrain or through water ways. If hiking on more of a straight path or small slope, you can keep them neatly packed away in your pack, but at the ready if you change terrain.
always pack a self-defense item (knife, bear spray, small ax). Knives and small hatchet may be used as a dual-purpose tool.
Always tell someone where you are planning to hike and a time you plan to be back, if hiking alone. More people go missing on trails than you think!
Download a good app to guide you on trails. You can even download the trail for offline use on your smartphone from some of the apps.
